Ron Pepper, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast, is pleased to announce that Sandy Cliffe of the Gibsons Bottle Depot has volunteered to provide a drop-off point for the penny drive.

With Canada phasing out the penny, the ReStore in Sechelt initiated a penny collection campaign in early April with a goal of collecting 10,000,000 pennies that would provide $100,000 to build a new home on the Sunshine Coast. The response has been very encouraging as local residents have already donated more than 10,000 pennies.

“I am delighted to work with Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast by providing a drop-off point at the Gibsons Bottle Depot” Cliffe said. “Their work in mobilizing volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty is so worthwhile.”

The Gibsons Bottle Depot has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to provide an opportunity for residents who would like to donate their refundable beverage containers along with their pennies to support Habitat for Humanity.

Drop off your donations Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
