The Coasters men’s soccer team coached by Sean Whalen won its division at the recent Soccerfest in Squamish April 21 and 22.
The squad went 3-0 in the round robin to enter the playoffs as the number one seed in their division.
Martin Blackwell, Bob Hoy and Brad Jennens provided strong defensive play throughout the weekend and timely scoring by Robin Millar and Ken Campbell helped in winning their first three games.
The semi final and final were a different story as scoring was at a premium as both those games ended up 0-0 and went to shootouts as the Coasters stepped up to win both and take the trophy home.
Coasters goalie Al Stewart was outstanding in both shootout victories and according to Whalen was tournament MVP. Blackwell took honorable mention in that category.
The team would like to thank its player sponsors, Hoy of Marketplace IGA in Gibsons, Grant Marshall of Ridgepoint Contracting, Eoin Ross of Ross Concrete Services and Dino Sita of Sitas Spag Shack.
