Pender Harbour

This Saturday, May 5 the secondary school girls soccer team is hosting a car wash to raise funds for an upcoming trip to the Rural Invitational Soccer Tournament in Osooyos. Donate and drive away in a clean and shiny vehicle. The Car wash takes place at the Rona parking lot, weather permitting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Monday, May 7 join the Pender Harbour Hiking Group as they travel up through the forests of Mount Daniel.

On Wednesday, May 9 the group will set off for the second moderate hike of the week at Cecil Hill. For more information call 604-883-2930.

Dale and Michael Jackson, Blue Waters Book Store will bring us two events the next two weeks. Join Sunshine Coast writers Theresa Kishkan and John Pass for a special reading to celebrate their BC Book Prize nominations for their newly released books, Mnemonic: A Book of Trees (Kishkan) and crawlspace (Pass). The Blue Waters Book Store presents this event free of charge Monday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the School of Music.

If you are a Chilcotin fan or know someone who is you will want to meet Diana Phillips, daughter of Canadian folk legend Pan Phillips and author of Beyond the Home Ranch. Phillips will visit Blue Waters Book Store on Tuesday, May 15 at 3 p.m.

The Pender Harbour and District Women’s Connection will welcome Wendy Hunt and Jane Davidson to their gathering Tuesday, May 8. The ladies will present plans and information for the 30th annual Festival of the Written Arts. Doors open at 9:30, gathering from 10 a.m. to noon at the School of Music. Members, non-members and drop-ins always welcome.

Harbourside Friendship Group will also offer readings at their Thursday, May 10 meeting as they welcome George Connell to their Authors Corner. Everyone is welcome. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. at the School of Music. A hot lunch will be served at noon. Call Cathy for more information at 604-883-9766.

May 10 is Auxiliary Day. Celebrate with the good people of St. Mary’s Hospital/Health Care Auxiliary, Pender Harbour Branch. To show their appreciation for all the community support over the years they will be handing out delicious homemade cookies outside the IGA from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Youth Night at The Pool happens Friday, May 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. Everyone is welcome, but be prepared for a youth-friendly environment. Enjoy games, prizes and refreshments during this fun-filled evening. Youth admission special is $2.

Word is still out to former staff of the St. Mary’s Hospital, Garden Bay 1930 to 1964 to get together for the 75th anniversary celebration tea in June. Contact Maureen Lee at 604-883-2563 or lilylake@telus.net.
