Voices of Egmont

Egmont

One of the great features of our community displayed it best side wonderfully last week.

The Pender Harbor Health Clinic has a loan closet with crutches, walkers, bed rails, wheelchairs, and a variety of items for the care of those who have a need. These are the type of items that usually have years of useful life when the patient recovers and no longer need them. Good-hearted souls frequently donate such items back to the Loan Closet for use by others.

Recently, Cathy Grant was told by her physical therapist that it was time to pick up a walker and perhaps an electric scooter. It turns out that Ed Hawkins had recently donated an almost new, bright red electric scooter to the loan closet. A few phone calls by Linda Baillie, a co-ordination with Rose Everett at the clinic, and a pick up run by George Connell, and Cathy is mobile, once again. It is good to live in a community where people work together to take care of each other.

Now, will some kind soul give that chick on the red scooter with an ear-to-ear grin a motorcycle helmet?

The community garden project is ready for planting. These are raised bed gardens with fresh, high quality soil that should raise excellent vegetables. Please see Bruce Hillhouse to co-ordinate the use of a plot.

Harbourside Friendships, a part of the Senior Initiative (55-plus), meets every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Music School in Madeira Park. Usually, there is a program, a quiz or game, and a hot luncheon ($5), served at noon.

Future themes include an Authors Corner at the Pender Harbour School of Music on May 10 and George Connell will preside over this morning’s events, the annual trip to Kleindale Nursery on May 17. Meet there from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for a nursery tour and coffee. Organizers will be taking orders for lunch at the Pender Harbour Golf Club. On May 24 there will be carpet bowling and lunch to follow at the Pender Harbour Community Hall and on May 31, join in for a wonderful morning of music by the Inspiration at the Pender Harbour School of Music. This group of musicians will be pleasing to everyone.
