Strategic planning

The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) is drawing on the expertise of Sunshine Coast local governments to renew its strategic plan.

On Friday, April 20, the SCRD invited representatives from the Town of Gibsons, Sechelt Indian Government District and the District of Sechelt to a full day strategic planning session.

“Input and participation from all local governments will help ensure that the community’s vision is taken into account,” said board chair Garry Nohr in a news release. “In order for us to create a sustainable way of life, we must recognize, listen and build upon the diverse assets and resources within the community.”

The new strategic plan will focus on sustainability and be based on the Sunshine Coast-wide sustainability plan titled We Envision that the SCRD board adopted in October 2011.

“Our plan is a platform for collaborative leadership and action on a regional scale, as well as a structure for holding ourselves accountable to the medium and long term goals that will be identified in the plan,” added Nohr. “We also hope it provides residents and community leaders with a snapshot of where we are today and what work is needed in the future.”

The board will meet again in May to refine identified strategies and to finalize the proposed strategic plan. Following this, the board will be asking councils and the community for comments on the proposed plan in late spring.
