Pender Harbour

The next few weekends some of the greatest events of the year will take place in Pender Harbour. The weather forecast is looking good for tomorrow’s day of festivities at April Tools Boat Building Challenge.

The Dragontini Team, representing the Pender Harbour Paddling Society will be dockside from noon to 2 p.m. Meet the team, join them for a paddle and you just might sign on as a member. Paddles and life jackets will be provided. As a fundraiser for a new boat the team will be selling tickets for a grand prize, 51 inch Plasma TV, draw to take place May Day. Sunday, May 6 is Go Green Day, Harbour Cleanup sponsored by the P.H. Power and Sail Squadron. Spend a couple of fun hours starting at 10 a.m. socializing while cleaning up our community. Bring your children and friends. Meet at Millennium Park or the pump-house at the south end of Garden Bay Lake. May Day is fast approaching. A new Queen has been crowned. Congratulations to Lilah Donnahee now the reigning Pender Harbour May Day Queen of 2012.

Judging of May Day posters will take place at the Community Club Market this Saturday at the hall. Come out and vote for your favorite artist. Doors open at 10 a.m.

Important positions need to be filled for our May Day extravaganza; both the parade marshall and parade judges. Please contact Marlene at 604-883-9900 to volunteer.

Parade entry forms and adult laser light show tickets are available at Harbour Insurance.

Get busy in your kitchen and garden and support our hardworking Community Club. This is last call for your donations of plants and baking for the market this. Call Marlene for pick-up or drop-off at 604-883-9900

Good news, just in, Wilma Thompson’s famous tomato plants will be for sale at the market with all proceeds going to The Pipe Band.

Registration for Girl Guides of Canada for girls who will be in Grades K to 9 in September will get underway May 1. Pender Harbour District Girl Guides will host an information/enrolment event Tuesday, May 1, from 2 to 5 pm at an information/enrolment event at the Community School. Find out about the fun and adventures you can have as a member of the Girl Guides. Returning members may register on-line anytime or at the event. New members on-line after June 2 or wait list at the event www.girlguides.ca.

Harbourside Friendship Group will venture into the big world of technology at the Pender Harbour School of Music on Thursday, May 3. Participate in a round robin with different stations set up to be explored. Everyone is more than welcome. Enjoy a hot lunch served at noon. The Pender Harbour Music Society will present Christie Reside and Terrance Dawson on Sunday, May 6, at 2 p.m. at the School of Music. This will be the last performance of the concert series for this season. Tickets are $20 available at Harbour Insurance, John Henry’s Marina, the Sechelt Visitor Information Centre, and Gaia’s Fair Trade in Gibsons Landing

In July 2009 the pool held a “Walkabout Pender Harbour” program which evolved into the Hiking Group still going strong. Due to requests the “Walkabout Pender Harbour "program will once again be offered beginning on May 7. Walks will be once a week, from 9 to 10 a.m. Mondays for eight weeks. This program is for a beginner/moderate fitness level. Please phone the pool to register at 604-885-6866.

Registration for the Survivors sleepover closes Monday, April 30. This event takes place Saturday, May 5 for ages six to 12.

Speaking of the Hiking Group, Monday, April 30 Chapman Falls at Porpoise Bay will be the location for their outing. This is a new, moderate hike in a beautiful area of the Sunshine Coast. For more information call 604-883-2930.
