Some of the hardworking crew who build the new playground are: Robyn Anderson, Nadine Coombes, Colin Wright, Owen Coombes, Adam Zanbilowicz and Jenn Muldowney. Missing from photo are Hervé Meyer, Maude Leduc, Marie-Luce Claveau, Katherine Hume, Carl Montgomery and James Anderson.

Les Petits du Pacifique is the first licensed registered non-profit francophone child care centre located on the Sunshine Coast. It is located at École du Pacifique in Sechelt and operates twice a week at full capacity. It opened its doors in January 2011 after four years of hard work by the committee to fundraise and meet all the licensing requirements in order to operate.

During this past Labour Day weekend the committee and a handful of hardworking volunteers were busy building a brand new playground from the ground up for the little ones. The small team constructed a beautiful wooden playhouse with a porch, a huge sandbox, kid-sized picnic tables, a fun winding path, stepping logs, big flower planters, and a sturdy wooden shed to store the outdoor equipment.

The committee is extremely appreciative of the community support through various local business contributions and the generosity of the volunteers who gave up so many hours to make this playground a reality!

The playground was funded through a combination of fundraising and grant applications. The committee decided to keep the space as natural as possible and will continue to add play features as they raise more money in the future. The children have been enjoying the new space to play in and thanks to a recent purchase they will also enjoy riding new balance bikes, plasma cars and scooters in the outdoor court area.

The childcare centre is managed by Renée Lachance and has dedicated employee Nathalie Flibotte working there full time two days a week. The centre is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The next fundraising event is the third annual Valentine’s Dance and Soirée which will be held at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt on Saturday, Feb. 11. It has become an annual event due to the popularity of this special evening with live music, yummy hors d’oeuvres, and fantastic raffles.

If you are interested in the centre or the upcoming fundraiser event, please contact petitsdupacifique@csf.bc.ca or phone 604-741-5852.
