Arson suspected in Hackett Park

Sunshine Coast RCMP

Sunshine Coast RCMP are investigating a suspected arson at Hackett Park in Sechelt.

On Jan. 29 around 1:15 p.m. RCMP and the Sechelt fire department were dispatched to a fire in Hackett Park.

“Police arrived and found the men’s restroom set on fire,” said Cpl. Steve Chubey. “Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze, however smoke damage was extensive. It was discovered that the fire was the result of arsonists, as a phonebook and several paper towel were used to start the fire. 

“This file remains under investigation and surveillance video is being reviewed.”

Anyone with information on this arson or any other reports of mischief of the Hackett Park washrooms are strongly urged to contact Const. Kyle Hrynyk at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Suspicious fire on Mill Road

RCMP are seeking the public’s help with information following what they are describing as a suspicious fire on Mills Road last week.

On Jan. 9 at approximately 3 a.m. the Sechelt fire department and RCMP were dispatched to a report of a house fire in the 5400 block of Mills Road.

“Upon arriving, the house was fully engulfed in flames,” said Chubey. “The residents of the house were able to escape without injury. The fire has been deemed suspicious in nature and the cause undetermined at this time.”

RCMP is asking that anyone with any information from the public that may assist in the investigation into this fire contact Cpl. Don Newman at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
