The second film in this fall’s Green Film Series, In Transition: From oil dependence to local resilience, will be shown on Monday, Oct. 24, at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons.
This film is the first detailed documentary about the Transition movement, about communities around the world responding to peak oil and climate change with creativity, imagination and humour. Transition initiatives from seven countries explain how they are mobilizing to improve their resilience by developing local food networks, local energy supplies, local transport — even local money. It is positive, solutions focused, viral and fun.
Kevin Wilson and Julie Thorne, members from Transition Town Powell River, and local community member Mark Lebbel, who has had Transition training, will attend and give their perspective and answer questions. Transition Town Powell River is an official Transition initiative affiliated with the international Transition Network.
The Gibsons Green Team and Sustainable Coast Magazine in collaboration with the Sunshine Coast Film Society are presenting the Green Film Series.
This special series will feature environmental-themed films, filmmakers, discussions to engage the audience and door prizes. The films will be shown on Mondays, alternating with the SCFS’s regular fall schedule of films.
Tickets prices are $5 per person with a membership fee to the Film Society required. Membership fees are $15 per year or a $3 temporary membership for the single event. Annual memberships are available on the SCFS website at scfs.ca or at the door. Screening times are at 7:30 pm., doors open at 7.
