Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Dec. 14 to 21:
• A thief broke into a residence in the 2400 block of Milliner Road sometime in the past few weeks and stole a 32” Sony LCD Model 32S3000 plasma TV and a black Samsung DVD player. It is unknown how the thief gained entry into the home, as there were no signs of damage. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266, reference file 10-9509.
• On Dec. 14, a thief stole a purse from a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way. The purse contained a variety of items including the owner's social insurance number card. Police would like to remind people that SIN cards and birth certificates should not regularly be kept in your purse or wallet unless needed.
• A police officer came upon a single vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Orange Road, where the vehicle was off road in a ditch. The vehicle had sustained significant damage to the front end and had to be towed and the driver sustained some injuries to his head. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol shortly before the incident and failed a roadside alcohol-screening test. The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition.
• On Dec. 15, a thief stole a purse from a business in the 5400 block of Highway 101. The black purse contained identification and a variety of jewellery, including a large jade and gold ring, and large gold pendant. The purse was later found by a passerby on a walkway near Pebbles Beach, but the jewellery and other valuables were missing.
• A prohibited driver was caught near Kraus Road and Roberts Creek Road after a police officer did a driver's licence check. The driver, who was also supposed to have an ignition interlock device installed in his vehicle, tried to evade detection by pretending to be his brother, and gave police false information. An extensive roadside investigation led to confirmation of the driver's identity. He was arrested for obstruction, driving while prohibited and driving contrary to restrictions. His vehicle was towed.
• On Dec. 16, two young male suspects were reported shoplifting from a business in the 900 block Venture Way. Staff was able to provide good descriptions of the suspects and police located them a short distance away. One of the stolen items was recovered and both males were arrested for theft under $5,000. One of the males later admitted that he was the thief, which was confirmed by the business, so his friend was released without charges.
• A two-vehicle accident occurred in the north end of Redrooffs Road after one vehicle crossed the centre line on a curve and struck a second vehicle, sending this vehicle into the ditch. The first vehicle also ended up in a ditch some distance down the road. The driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital for minor head injuries. The driver of the first vehicle was issued a violation ticket for speed relative to conditions. Both vehicles were towed due to heavy damage.
• Sometime between Dec. 4 and 17, a thief broke into a residence in the 7500 block of Sechelt Inlet Road by using a rock to break a lower level window. A number of household items were stolen, including a memory foam mattress, duvet cover, kitchen chairs, a shop-vac, an LCD television and cooking supplies.
• Sometime between Dec. 17 and 18, vandals used a hatchet to damage property at several addresses in the 300 block of Harry Road, 300 block of Vernon Place, and 1400 block of Bonniebrook Heights Road. Two teen males were spotted at one address shortly after midnight, where the bushes had been damaged by a hatchet. The males were described as being between 16 and 18-years old. One male was about six feet tall dressed in a grey hoodie. The second male was approximately 5'8” to 5'9” tall dressed in dark clothing.
• On Dec. 16, a thief stole 15 Native-design rings from a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way. The rings were made of welded copper.
• A witness reported a driver and passengers drinking in a vehicle on a Langdale bound ferry, and provided a licence plate, vehicle and driver description. Police stopped the suspect vehicle on North Road and questioned the five occupants. All denied consuming alcohol, but police located a bottle of alcohol inside the vehicle as well as a coffee cup with alcohol in it. The alcohol was disposed of and the Class 7 driver did not have an "N" displayed on the vehicle, so was issued a violation ticket for driving contrary to restrictions (for a no "N" and too many passengers) as well as for open liquor in a motor vehicle.
