A solid contingent of athletes from the Sunshine Coast did their community proud at last weekend’s B.C. Summer Games in Langley.

More than 2,500 athletes from around the province competed in 23 sports over three days of competition.

Of the 10 Coast athletes who competed, only one secured a medal, a bronze for Felix Rankin of Gibsons in the boys’ pentathlon.

Other results from the athletics competition included: Hailey Perry of Gibsons, fifth in the 1,500m race walk and fifth in the pole vault; Caleb Burnham of Halfmoon Bay, sixth in shot put, seventh in hammer throw and 10th in discus; Brandy Perry of Roberts Creek, eighth in shot put, seventh in hammer throw and eighth in discus; MacKenzie Stewart of Madeira Park was fourth in the pentathlon; and Sophie Garmulewicz of Gibsons finished sixth.

In softball, the zone five team from Squamish-Vancouver finished with a record of 1-3. The team featured Megan Olsen and Leah Ewert from Gibsons.

In volleyball, the zone five team finished fourth, losing in the bronze medal game after a 2-2 preliminary record. Devon May from Roberts Creek competed on the team. In baseball, the zone five team finished with a record of 1-2 featuring Dallas Colpitts from Gibsons.
