Paralympic houses set to open

Make sure you head to Whistler’s favourite Irish pub, the Dubh Linn Gate, located in the Pan Pacific Mountainside, to check out the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program (WASP) House during the Paralympic Games from Friday (March 12) through March 21.

The house is planned to be a fun gathering spot for athletes, volunteers and supporters during the Games.

All of the proceeds collected through fundraising efforts there during the Paralympics will be directed to the creation of the new Jeff Harbers Adaptive Sports Centre, a new building proposed for mid-station on Whistler Mountain.

The centre is a community legacy being created for individuals with a disability in Whistler, and named for the co-founder and first president of the American Friends of Whistler.

ATLANTIC CANADA COMES TO WHISTLER: Atlantic Canada House comes to Whistler, running Monday through Wednesday (March 15 to 17).

Situated at the Longhorn, the Atlantic Canada House pavilion features yummy East Coast food during the day, and musical performances by Atlantic Canadian entertainers in the evening.

The East Coast experience will culminate on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) with a traditional celebration and a party that’ll likely be remembered for a long time.

The House also plays host to a special luncheon for Canada’s Paralympic athletes and their families, where guests will have the opportunity to explore a variety of sports equipment used by Paralympians and to sign a card wishing our athletes well in competition.

Atlantic Canada House was a popular pavilion on Granville Island in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics. For more info go to atlanticcanadahouse.ca.

SEE THE BIGGER PICATURE: Until March 21, the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC) hosts Airbus and National Geographic’s touring photography exhibit called See the Bigger Picture.

Making its North American debut at the SLCC, the exhibit features entries from an international youth photography competition run by Airbus in partnership with National Geographic and the U.N. Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
