Community Futures of the Sunshine Coast celebrated 25 years of supporting entrepreneurship on the Coast on Dec. 12 at the Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club. The sold out affair featured guest speaker Bruce Dewar of LIFT Philanthropy Partners. Presentations came from five innovative businesses — Nick Hermes of Urban Stream, Chad Hershler for FUSE community work hub, Buddy Boyd from Gibsons Recycling, Debbie Mealia, board chair of the Sunshine Coast Community Living Association, and Peter Doig from Salish Soils. Recognition of Community Futures board chair, Dawn Miller as volunteer of the year for the organization and a $250,000-cheque presentation to Joe Wright, team leader for the Gibsons Landing Harbour Authority were also made. The $250,000 came through the auspices of Community Economic Adjustment Initiative funded by Western Economic Development Canada. Departing board member JM Boyd was thanked for his past contributions. Attendees enjoyed a delicious buffet meal and music by DJ Astrid Bradbury.
