Concerned citizens from Canada to Argentina stood in solidarity to call for a stop to exploitation by Canadian extractive companies on Aug. 1. In Sechelt people gathered at Brookman Park beside the Chapman Creek bridge to wave signs and try to get their message out to the masses. Pamphlets handed out by the group in Sechelt stated “Canadian-based resource exploration and exploitation activities have caused widespread displacement of people and destruction of livelihoods across the Americas. The practices of Canadian companies have compromised water and food security, led to irreversible losses in biodiversity and caused long term health problems.”
