EDMONTON - The race to pick the new leader of Alberta's NDP begins June 2.

The party has also announced that nominations will close on Aug. 5, with the leadership convention to be held in Edmonton on Oct. 18.

Each candidate must put down a $5,000 non-refundable deposit and collect 50 signatures from party members.

The candidate spending limit is $100,000.

So far, only Edmonton MLA David Eggen has indicated he will run to replace current leader Brian Mason.

Mason announced in April he is stepping down to put a fresh face on the party that he says is poised to make gains province-wide in the next election.
